What is needed to acquire a passport:
A certified copy of your birth certificate with a clear seal.
If you were born in Montana you can go to the Clerk and Recorder office and they can pull up a copy of the certificate, print it off and certify it, regardless of where in Montana you were born.
Two identical pictures {2x2} on plain light background, printed paper that will withstand the heat of lamination to the passport. There is more on the web site about pictures. Some places to get pictures of the right size are: Wal-Mart, Kinkos, Costco, Riggs in Miles City, and Baker Rexall, most places that do one hour photo developing.
To obtain a 10-year passport the following fees are applied:
$67.00 to Passport services
$30.00 to Clerk of District Court
Total: $97.00
Allow 4 to 6 weeks for your passport to reach you, as the processing time take about this long.
After you obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate and receive your pictures, come to the Clerk of Court and fill out the form, present some form of I.D. and the clerk will process your application and mail it to the proper place.
If you have an expired passport that is over 10 years but less than 15 you can come down to the Clerk of Court office and get a new form. To renew your passport just follow the steps just as if you are getting one for the first time.
If you are acquiring a passport for someone under the age of 16 the total cost for a 10-year is $82.00 and for a 5-year the cost is $40.00.
Marriage License
A marriage license can be obtained by filling out the marriage license application. The legal age to obtain a marriage license is 18 years of age or older.
A Rubella test is needed for the woman if she is the child bearing age. There is a waiver of the rubella test that can be signed by both the Bride and Groom acknowledging that they have been informed of the damage to an unborn child if the mother contracts rubella during the pregnancy. If you choose to have a pre-marital test done, you need to do this at any medical certified lab. You then need a certificate, signed by both the Bride and Groom that they have been made aware of the test results. We accept blood tests from other states.
We will need to see some form of identification (drivers license, birth certificate, etc. for proof of age).
If either party has been previously married then a copy of the Divorce Decree or Death Certificate should be presented to obtain a marriage license.
The total cost of a marriage license is $53.00. There is no waiting period to get married in the state of Montana, so you can purchase the license and get married the same day. The Clerk of Court office is open from 8:oo a.m. till 12:00 p.m. and open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
